Mark Macdonald
Mark Macdonald is the Director and Principal Physiotherapist at Winston Hills Physiotherapy Centre in Sydney’s Hills District. Since graduating from the University of Sydney in 1998, Mark has built extensive experience in sports physiotherapy, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, chronic pain management and performance-based physiotherapy.
My Story
With extensive experience treating athletes, active individuals and everyday patients, Mark is known for combining hands-on physiotherapy treatment with evidence-based rehabilitation programs designed to achieve long-term results — not just short-term pain relief.
Mark has a particular interest in:
-
Sports injury rehabilitation
-
Knee pain and lower back pain
-
Running and football injuries
-
Golf physiotherapy and swing-related injuries
-
Strength and conditioning-based rehabilitation
-
Chronic pain management
-
Biomechanical assessment
-
Recovery optimisation and sleep health

Mark recently completed his Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Level 1 Certification, allowing him to assess how movement limitations, mobility restrictions and biomechanics influence golf swing mechanics, performance and injury risk. This advanced training helps golfers improve movement efficiency, reduce injury risk and optimise performance on the course.

He has also completed specialised training in SD Labs Bed Fitting and Sleep Recovery Assessment, focusing on the relationship between sleep quality, recovery, chronic pain and physical performance. Mark integrates sleep and recovery strategies into physiotherapy management where appropriate, particularly for patients experiencing persistent pain, fatigue, recovery issues or poor sleep quality.
Mark believes successful physiotherapy should focus on identifying the true cause of pain and dysfunction, rather than simply treating symptoms. His treatment approach combines:

-
Manual therapy
-
Exercise rehabilitation
-
Movement correction
-
Strength development
-
Injury prevention strategies
-
Education and self-management

As a local physiotherapist in Winston Hills, Mark is passionate about helping the Hills District community stay active, recover from injury and perform at their best — whether that means returning to sport, improving mobility, recovering from surgery or simply moving without pain.

Outside the clinic, Mark and his family are long-term local residents of Winston Hills and are heavily involved in the local sporting community, particularly soccer, cricket and golf. In 2021, Mark was awarded Cricket Australia Community Coach of the Year in recognition of his contribution to community sport.

Mark regularly writes educational health articles for the Winston Hills Physiotherapy Centre blog covering topics such as sports injuries, rehabilitation, sleep and chronic pain, shoulder injuries, massage therapy, exercise and recovery.
