Ways to Keep Active During this Time
It is more important now than ever to keep on top of your health. During these circumstances where there is a lot of uncertainty, we can say for sure that health remains a top priority. We are all faced with various challenges which make keeping active difficult, such as the closing down of gyms, and health and recreational facilities. Many of us however are working from home which allows flexibility for a bit of activity. As you may be aware we are still allowed to leave our homes for a small number of things, one of which includes exercise.
Tips for remaining active
Set yourself a reminder to perform a small amount of exercise regularly throughout the day. I.e. 10 push-ups or 10 squats every hour. This keeps your mind stimulated, your body working (and is better than the hourly walk to the fridge).
If you're working from home, try using your previous travel time as a time to exercise - this helps keep you in a routine and is a great way to transition to working, or transition from working (separate your work and personal life).
No gym? No worries. Try using house-hold items like pot plants or boxes (or your dog?) as extra resistance when doing your exercises - use your imagination!
30 minute power walks (more or less) are great to keep the heart pumping and to get you out of the house. Try walking in hilly areas to add more intensity, or who says you can't run?
Dust off your bike and get cycling again.
Change it up daily - walking, bike, yoga, stretching, body weight conditioning, strengthening, skipping - it's your choice! You can do exercises individually or even as part of a circuit!
Some exercises you can do from home
Walking, running, biking
Conditioning exercises: push ups, dips using your chair, squats, wall squats, lunges, planks, side planks, over head press, step ups, step jumps, bur pees, jump squats, bridges
Yoga (or online yoga - beginners, intermediate or advanced)
Good luck and keep healthy!
